Starting with the basics, aluminum is a popular metal for prototyping, largely due to its unique combination of beneficial properties such as strength, lightweight nature, conductivity, and resistance to corrosion. Delving deeper, different alloys provide various properties, each tailored for specific applications. To give you a clearer picture, here are some commonly used types of aluminum for prototyping:
Its great weldability, strength, and resistance to corrosion make it ideal for a wide variety of applications, including automotive parts, aircraft components, and bicycle frames.
With excellent fatigue resistance and a high strength-to-weight ratio, 2024 is predominantly used in aerospace applications, such as fuselage structures and aircraft skins.
Known for its superb strength-to-weight ratio, 7075 is often used in applications where high strength is essential, such as aircraft wings, aerospace components, and rock-climbing equipment.
This alloy has good corrosion resistance, especially in saltwater environments. It’s often used for marine components, electronic enclosures, and some architectural applications.

Surface Finish for CNC Aluminum Prototyping
Diving into details, choosing the right finish not only enhances the appearance but also improves wear and corrosion resistance, while ensuring better adhesion for paints and coatings. To guide you through the selection process, here are some common surface finishes for CNC aluminum prototyping:
One of the most popular finishes for aluminum, anodizing provides a hard, wear-resistant layer on the surface. It can be done in various colors, enhancing the prototype's appearance. Anodizing also improves corrosion resistance.
2. Bead Blasting:
This process uses bead-shaped media to create a smooth matte surface. It's primarily for aesthetic purposes and to provide a uniform appearance.
3. Powder Coating:
